  • downloading = the raw data is being downloaded for the job
  • processing = the raw data is being processed
  • modeling = the R-CHAIM model is running using the processed raw data

Rules of the Road

R-CHAIM is provided free to all users; however, if used for scientific purposes, please follow the below rules of the road:

  1. Any publication resulting from the use of this assimilation system must include the following acknowledgement: "E-CHAIM, A-CHAIM, and R-CHAIM are supported under Defence Research and Development Canada contract number W7714‐186507/001/SS and are maintained by the Canadian High Arctic Ionospheric Network (CHAIN) with operations support from the Canadian Space Agency."
  2. Please contact echaim at unb.ca if you publish results using the model or assimilation systems. This information will help support future development and maintenance of the model and we will add your publication to our publications list (https://chain-new.chain-project.net/index.php/chaim?id=51).
  3. Users must provide a link to their assimilation run in any papers published using R-CHAIM. All runs will be preserved for ease of access by readers and reviewers.


Release Notes

Changes for version 1.1
- A fix to NOAA RINEX downloads and likely SMART RINEX downloads. The previous versions may not have had the NOAA and SMART RINEX data download properly and would therefore be missing in the assimilation.

The Canadian High Arctic Ionospheric Models (CHAIM)

The Canadian High Arctic Ionospheric Models (CHAIM) is a suite of empirical (E-CHAIM) and assimilation (A-CHAIM and R-CHAIM) ionospheric electron density models designed for application at high latitudes. Funding for CHAIM was provided by the Canadian Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC), contract number #W7714-186507.

Rules of the Road

When using the Empirical-Canadian High Arctic Ionospheric Model (E-CHAIM) for scientific purposes, we ask users to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • List the version number for the version of the E-CHAIM code you are using (ex: v1.4.0).
  • While we do not ask to be included as co-authors to your publications using the model, we do ask that you let us know after you have published a paper that uses the model. This goes a long way to helping us justify further funding support to keep the model available and free.
  • Please include the following acknowledgement in publications using the model: “E-CHAIM is supported under Defence Research and Development Canada contract number W7714‐186507/001/SS and is maintained by the Canadian High Arctic Ionospheric Network (CHAIN) with operations support from the Canadian Space Agency.”
- Updated AACGM libary to v2.6 and the coefficients to IGRF 13.
